Two friends of mine and I did a 50-mile bike ride today to increase awareness of breast cancer, and, to honor a close friend of our's who died from it about two and a half years ago...
It was an absolutely gorgeous day and about 150 of us rode for 10, 25, or 50 miles.
The half-way point was Crystal Springs Reservoir...
But before we got there, Kevin found a house for Janice...
Unbeknownst to us, today was also the "Day of the Horse"
We traveled down some amazing roads that made us all wonder if we had somehow been magically transported away from Silicon Valley to some rural area in another part of the state or U.S.
It was impossible for me to actually capture most of the beauty we saw, given the fact I was riding my bike while trying to play Mr. Photographer. (*Please refer to the following shot of me trying to take photos of what was behind me...certainly a beautiful view...all I was capable of doing was shooting the top of my helmet/head...IDIOT!)
Once at Altamont Road, after missing the first incredible view of the Santa Clara Valley, I turned around and tried to get some shots of the cities where many of us live...
We made our way down from the hills and heading back to Los Altos. Kevin did a great job leading the way. (*He probably could have finished an hour ahead of us, but thankfully he waited for us.)
Here we are at the finish. (*My photo comes first, but Kevin and Janice arrived before me...)
They had some good food to munch on at the finish line, and, even had some teens making fruit smoothies with a blender attached to a bike!
Here's what Janice's computer read when we finished the ride...she told me we needed to add a few minutes...so we're guessing it took us around 3 hours and 20 minutes...
I can't think of a better way to spend the morning...cheering for the courageous women who are fighting cancer as I write this blog post (*or as you read it), and, remembering the ones we love who fought valiently...and who's battles are now over.
Nice post Randy, great to have you on the ride today. We'll have to hire an official photographer for our next ride.
