Jacquie & I had the pleasure of visiting some of our family in Washington earlier this month. We had a blast, and, were able to capture just a small amount of it on film. Hope you enjoy the photos!
We began our vacation in Seattle, at Paula & Eric's condo.
They have a fabulous view of Union Lake
One day we visited Seattle Center...
and spent some time at the Pacific Science Center, a great place for kids of all ages!
One of my favorite areas was the Insect Village...
But before I show you some beautiful butterflies, we had to walk past a "cucaracha" from Madagascar. Ali willingly offered to hold it. But I, full of wisdom...and fear!...refused.
And then, suddenly, the little bugger lept from her hand, flew through the air, and crawled into my ear! Thankfully, it crawled back out...
So, I ate him...
In the gift shop I saw something that I think someone I know very well could use..
(*I don't want to embarrass them, but their initials are GLORIA CHASE!)
They also had some great spacesuits. I wanted to get one for Nathan, but they didn't have his size...
(*Besides, who wants to be an astronaut when you can be an environmental engineer living in Manhattan?!)
OK, getting back to the butterflies...In order to see them, you have to enter a special area with a double-door entrance. They are flying around freely and are absolutely breath-taking...
Another day we went for a walk at the University of Washington campus.
Now I know why so many students want to go there...
They even had a little ramp for ducks...
The next day we took the ferry to Claire and Shane's house on Anderson Island, located in the Puget Sound...
While on the ferry, a gorgeous mermaid - fully clothed (*this is a PG13 blog) - jumped aboard...
We also noticed that someone had purchased a car from Sabeti Motors, Shane's dealership. They have some great deals and really treat their customers right!
After about a 20 minute ferry ride, we arrived at the island, Claire picked us up, and drove us to their beautiful island home. Truly a gift from God.
A couple days after we arrived, Celine (*one of our nieces) and Claire organized a bridal shower for our niece, Ali. (*She's getting married to her fiance, Jeremiah...aka "very lucky guy"...in July.)
It's not every day that the Calvet Sistah's get together...
To my knowledge, they have taken this pose for the last 30 years...
The Fabulous Four, together with Celine, Sophia, y la novia.
One of the reasons I never go to bridal showers...
One day Shane took me to the shooting range...
Ya learn something new every day. I mean, come on! How many of you knew that Starbucks sold coffee and ammo for your favorite gun?
Shane took us for a boat ride around Anderson Island...
After the boat ride, I tried Sofia's paddle board. All I can say is a tried. Oh, and I DIDN'T fall into the freezing cold water!
Sofia, on the other hand, is a rock-star paddle boarder...
(*PS: It looks easier from the dock than it really is.)
One evening, while Shane was getting the BBQ grill ready, we took the ATV's out. FUN!
The town where the ferry departs from is Steilacom. It has a beautiful view, nice homes...
And lots of flowers...
They also have a great coffee shop
THE MONSTER CAPUCCINNO!
Claire is a fabulous cook. We hope that one day, once Sophia & Simon have moved out, that she and Shane come and live with us. The problem is I might weigh 1,000 pounds within a year! Here is some Persian food she made for us one evening...
Ah, before I end this post, I can't forget the two Sabeti pets. The first is the goldfish the size of a chocolate eclair...
(*It's hard to tell how big this guy is, but I think he is about five or six times the size of our fish, Jack.)
And, then there is Lolita...Claire's daughter, er, dog. (*An inside joke.)
We had a great vacation, and are grateful to God for giving us such a wonderful family!
